Algeria coach quits

ALGIERS (GoPharaohs.com) - Algeria manager Ali Fergani resigned on Monday, a day after the country’s 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe all but ensured that Algeria would not qualify for the 2006 African Cup of Nations finals in Egypt.
“Yesterday’s result called into question our qualification. Our objective was to qualify for the African Cup but, unfortunately, we did not succeed,” Fergani said at a press conference.
“I met today with the Football Federation members. We reached an agreement to cancel the contract,” he was heard saying on state radio.
Algeria are five points behind Zimbabwe for a place in Egypt with just two matches to play. The qualifiers also double as preliminaries for the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany, from which Algeria are officially eliminated.
