US write final chapter in Egyptian nightmare

ENSCHEDE, Netherlands (GoPharaohs.com) – The Young Pharaohs were finally put out of their misery Saturday, losing 1-0 to the United States at the World Youth Championship.
Egypt came into the match with a slight chance of being able to qualify for the knockout stages. It never looked likely however, as Egypt completed their campaign with zero goals scored for the totality of the three group matches.
Peterson scored the loan goal on 56 minutes, but not before the Egyptians had been playing the past 20 minutes of the match with only 10 men. Ahmed Gameel was sent off with 10 minutes to play in the first half for his second bookable offense.
Egypt couldn’t muster a single shot on goal until mid-way through the second half, when Shikibala’s low blast was parried wide by the American keeper. The Young Pharaohs had just three shots on goal total, with Shikibala’s attempt being the only shot to his the target.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s three red cards are by far the highest total of any team in the competition, with an average one per game.
In the other Group D match, Argentina held off Germany 1-0 to book its place in the knockout stages.
USA wins Group D with seven points from its three matches. Argentina’s win gives them second spot with their sixth point. Germany’s four points will likely see them through to the knockout stages as one of the tournament’s top four third-placed teams.
