Ahmed “Mido” Hossam’s recovery from a stomach injury was highlighted with three goals, with new Strasbourg signing Hosni Abd Rabo and Besiktas midfielder Ahmed Hassan scoring the other two. Hassan Shehata tested most of his players, fielding Abdel Wahed El Sayed, Wael Goma, Beshir El Tabei, Emad El Nahas, Ahmed Fathy, Tarek El Sayed, Hassan Mustafa, Mohamed Abo Treka, Ahmed Hassan, Hosni Abd Rabo, Ahmed Eid Abdel Malek, Ahmed Abo Mosalam, Mohamed Mohsen Abu Gresha, Ahmed “Mido” Hossam, and Abdel Halim Ali.
Mido’s recovery comes as good news to the coaching staff after having lost the services of the Egyptian league’s top marksman Emad Motab, who is currently recovering from a knee operation. However, Ahmed Hassan sustained an injury in France and is doubtful for the 19th. The veteran midfielder is currently undergoing rehabilitation in last-ditch efforts to catch up with the match.
Egypt need three points to remain in contention for Group C’s single world cup ticket. The national team should be travelling to the Ivorian capital in the next 24 hours.
