Stiff test ahead for Al-Ahly

July 7, 2005  |  By Hosam El-Aker

ABA, Nigeria (GoPharaohs.com) – Egyptian giants Al-Ahly will put its remarkable unbeaten run to the test on Sunday when they take on African Champions League holders Enyimba.

The Red Devils haven’t lost in more than a year, last going down in a June 2004 league match to the Arab Contractors.

Al-Ahly won its opening match over Raja Casablanca 1-0. The African Club of the Century was the only team to gain maximum points from its first match, with the other three ending in draws, including Enyimba’s 1-1 deadlock away to Ajax Capetown.

All eight teams will be in action this weekend. Egypt’s Zamalek host a North African derby with Tunisia’s Etoile Sahel on Sunday. The clash will mark the home debut for Zamalek’s new manager, German Theo Buckner.

The other Group B encounter will see Tunisian outfit Esperance host ASEC Abidjan on Saturday. Ali Zitouni is expected to see action, having returned home after a spell in the UAE.

Raja Casablanca will kick-off its home campaign against Ajax Capetown on Saturday.
