Ismaily election confusion
Despite a roll of moderately impressive performances by Ismaily’s soccer team, the club’s administration still lies in disarray. The club’s President and the head of the Board of Directors, Dr. Abdel Meniem Emara, has announced that he will resign on the 28th of April, and that elections will be held for a new Board sometime in June.
Dr. Emara was appointed as President of the club in December of last year, and was supposed to fulfill a year-long term, after which elections would take place for a new management. However, last week Emara announced that he would hold elections on the 28th of April. Today, several members of his Board, including Vice President Raafat Abdel-Azim, announced that they would not step down until the end of the season in June. Emara insisted that he would leave his position on the 28th of April, regardless of what his Board decides.
Ismaily has suffered severe instability problems this season, with several coach replacements and one Board replacement. The result was a very mediocre performance in the local league. It was only recently, under coach Theo Bucker, that the team once again started to achieve decent results. Bucker has insisted that he will isolate the team from any managerial problems, but with the Board split, and the future of the club uncertain, it may not be an easy task.
