Meteb puts Al-Ahly back on top
ALEXANDRIA (GoPharaohs.com) - Al-Ahly regained the top spot in the Egyptian Premier League after defeating Haras Al-Hodoud 2-0 in Alexandria. This match was a week 5 postponed match; one of several of Al-Ahly’s postponed league matches.
Emad Meteb scored both of Al-Ahly’s goals. The first goal came from a free kick taken by Meteb in the 34th minute of the first half. Flavio missed a few scoring opportunities prior to the goal in the 9th and 18th minutes. Al-Ahly played the offside trap on defense, a strategy which Al-Haras offense were not able to handle as most of their attempts fell into the trap.
Meteb went on to score the second goal in the 68th minute claiming the league top scorer position with 9 goals, tied with teammate Flavio who also has a total of 9 goals. With this result, Al-Ahly nab the top spot in the league standings from Ismaily. al-Ahly now has 32 points.
Al-Ahly continues to perform and produce results despite just returning from the FIFA Club World Championship in Japan. This puts them in a very comfortable position going into their next postponed match against arch rivals Zamalek. The match is scheduled for Saturday, December 30th.
