Egypt defeat Belarus 4-1, win Friendship Tournament

DOHA (GoPharaohs.com) - Egypt defeated Belarus 4-1 to win the final of the 6th Friendship Tournament hosted by Qatar. All five goals were scored in the second half of the match. Belarus scored first from a penalty kick and the Pharaohs soon retaliated with four goals to win the tournament for the third time in the last 6 years.

Goal scorers for Egypt were Ahmed Samir Farag (65′, 78′), Mohamed Ragab “Reeo” (80′) and Abdallah El-Saeed (90′). Head coach Vingada reinforced the Pharaoh offence with the energetic Shikabala in the second half, after a goalless first half where both Egypt and Belarus were resorting to defensive tactics and relying on counter-attacks.

Egypt received the first prize of $100,000. Belarus gets $80,000 while the third place prize of $60,000 went to South Africa. Egyptian goalkeeper Amir Tawfeek received a prize for best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Egypt won the tournament in 2002 and 2003, followed by Morocco in 2004, South Korea in 2005 and Japan in 2006.

Egypt participated in the Friendship Tournament in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
