Egypt ties with Nigeria 1-1
KINSHASA (GoPharaohs.com) - Egypt’s youth national team tied with their Nigerian rivals with a goal a piece on Wednesday in their Youth African Cup of Nations group match. With this result both Nigeria and Egypt have 4 points but Nigeria tops the group by goal difference.
Early in the first half Egypt showed solid performance and managed to fight off the Nigerian attacks and missed several scoring opportunities. Towards the end of the half, Nigeria began pressuring the Pharaohs who fell back to a more defensive strategy and relied on the counter attacks. Neither side could convert, however and the first half ended in a goalless draw.
In the second half, Egypt began to pick up the offensive pace again. Egypt scored first in the 54th minute via a powerful shot from outside the box by Mostafa Talaat. After the Pharaohs’ goal Nigeria loosed up defensively and began to attack vigorously to equalize. The continuous Nigerian pressure on the Egyptian defense resulted in a goal in the 80th minute by Emanuel to tie the game.

Egypt had defeated Cameroon 1-0 and Nigeria had defeated Zambia 4-2 in their first match. Nigeria is scheduled to play Cameroon while Egypt will play against Zambia. the top two from this group as well as the top 2 from Group A will qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Canada.
