Egypt advances to Friendship Tournament final
DOHA (GoPharaohs.com) - Egypt’s Olympic team defeated their South African counterpart on Monday 1-0 in their semi-final match of the Friendship Tournament hosted by Qatar. Egypt moves on to face Belarus, who defeated Qatar in the other semi-fnal match, in the final scheduled for Wednesday.
Egypt played with a lot of enthusiasm and energy in the first half, almost scoring on several occasions. Ahmed Shedeed Kenawi, “Shikabala” and Ahmed Ragab “Ree’o” all posed a threat to the Bafa defense. South Africa attempted to curb Egypt’s energy in the first half and successfully ended the first half 0-0.
The second half was a mirror opposite of the first. South Africa started to pick up the pace and threatened the Pharaohs’ goal on numerous occasions. Egypt’s energy went downhill except for a lone organized attack which ended with a Ragab header into South Africa’s net. Egypt pulled back into heavy defense after the goal and managed to pull off the win.
Egypt is participating in the Friendship tournament in preparation for the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing.
