El-Khateeb, Hossam Hassan second and third best players in Africa
CAIRO (GoPharaohs.com) - After pressure from the media, The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) released its list of Best African Players in the past 50 years earlier than previously scheduled. Five out of the list of thirty players were Egyptian. Mahmoud El-Khateeb and Hossam Hassan came in second and third place, respectively. Roger Milla of Cameroon received 2246 votes from Internet users and has been announced as Africa’s best player in the period between 1957 and 2007.
Since all votes were cast by internet users at the CAF website, the results are more reflective of “fan favorites” for best African player as opposed to an official list voted by an expert panel at CAF or FIFA.
The Egyptians on the list were:
- 2. Mahmoud El-Khateeb, 2165 votes
- 3. Hossam Hassan, 2011 votes
- 13. Saleh Selim, 850 votes
- 19. Hany Ramzy, 608 votes
- 20. Hassan Shehata, 605 votes
The full list can be found at the CAF official website.
