January 7, 2007

CAIRO (GoPharaohs.com) - Ismaily put a blunt end to Al-Ahly’s two-year winning streak on Sunday after dealing the Reds a crushing 3-0 defeat on their home turf in their postponed Egyptian Premier League matchup. Ismaily outplayed Al-Ahly through the entire two halves of the game and missed several golden opportunities to make the goal difference even larger.

Abdallah Saeed was the first to score for Ismaily in the 9th minute of the game. Former Ahly player Mohamed Fadl scored the second goal in the last minutes of the first half. Fadl scored again in with 8 minutes left in the game to seal the deal. Mohamed Abu Treika was knocked unconscious after a strong challenge by Ahmed Fathy forcing Al-Ahly to play with 10 men till the end of the game. This was Al-Ahly’s first defeat since May 15th 2004 when they lost to Zamalek 2-1.

Ismaily have overcome what club official’s have described as the bottleneck in their path to winning the 2006/2007 Egyptian Premier League title. By dealing such a crushing defeat to the league’s current leaders the Daraweesh have made it clear today that they are serious about winning this title.

Ismaily now have 35 points and have narrowed down the gap in points between them and Al-Ahly to just 6 points.
