Zaki penalty saves Zamalek

February 2, 2007

CAIRO (GoPharaohs.com) - Week 20 of the Egyptian Premier League was a pivotal one for the White Tribe. Zamalek inched past a tough Olympic opponent with a last minute penalty kick earned and scored by Amr Zaki.

Ismaily, who were Zamalek’s closest rivals in the ranks, drew with Al-Geish in their league matchup. Both teams are now tied in second place in the standings with 42 points each and only Al-Ahly ahead of them.

A fortified Olympic side proved to be too much for the slow Zamalek midfield and the inncurate attempts by the Zamalek forwards. Zamalek’s performance seemed to decline from their recent rebound in their last few games after Henri Michel took over.

In the last minute of the game, Amr Zaki was pushed by Olympic defender Ahmed Gomaa in the penalty area prompting the linesman to indicate a penalty kick. Zaki scored and saved Zamalek from losing two critical points.
