Egypt to host 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup
March 23, 2007
CAIRO (Gopharaohs.com) - FIFA has announced on Friday that Egypt will be hosting the 2009 U-17 World Cup. Egypt last hosted the U-17 World Cup in 1997 which was attended by a record crowd.
Egypt’s successful bid for the 2009 U-17 World Cup was especially important for the country’s officials and fans after a humiliating defeat to South Africa in the bid for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Four primary venues are expected to be chosen to host the U-17 teams: Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia and Port-Said, primarily for their already-existing infrasturcture.
