Egypt’s Olympic team loses to Ivory Coast 3-1
ABIDJAN (GoPharaohs.com) - The Ivorian olympic team earned a deserved victory over their Egyptian counterparts in their second-leg qualification match in Abidjan. The Elephants came back from behind to score three goals and secure their advance to the next round.
The Ivorians began the game with a fierce onslaught of attacks but Egypt’s goalkeeper managed to keep his goal clean. The Pharaohs took advantage of the Ivorian offensive bias and launched a counterattack on their open defensive lines which resulted in a goal by Abdallah El-Saeed. With Egypt ahead, Ivory Coast pulled back on the offense and took a more balanced approach. The first half remained 1-0.
Early in the second half, Ivory Coast was awarded a penalty from a controversial call and scored to tie the game. With the scoreline tied up, the Elephants began picking up the pace once again and pressured the Egyptians, whose performance declined relative to the first half. The pressure resulted in one goal in the 59th minute and another with only three minutes in regulation.
Both teams tied 1-1 in the first-leg match which was played in Cairo.
