Al-Ahly defeat Sundowns 2-0, advance to quarter finals
CAIRO (GoPharaohs.com) - Al-Ahly advanced to the quarter-finals of the African Champions League after defeating their South African opponents Sundowns 2-0 at Cairo International Stadium Friday evening.
The two teams exchanged attacks in the first half, although Sundowns were faster and more dangerous than their hosts. The first half ended 0-0 and had Ahly fans worried since a single goal from Sundowns would eliminate Reds from the competition.
In the second-half, Al-Ahly stepped-up and were the more dangerous side, missing a few real opportunities to score before being granted a penalty kick in the 69th minute which Shadi Mohamed scored from putting Al-Ahly up 1-0.
A returning Mohamed Abu Treka scored the second goal in the 81st minute from an assist by Mohamed Barakat to end the match 2-0.
