Ismaily advance to CAF Cup quarter-final

ISMAILIA (GoPharaohs.com) - Ismaily defeated their Moroccan rivals Wydad 2-0 on Friday in their second-leg match of the round of 16 of the African Confederation Cup.

The two teams put up a mediocre performance in the first half, each afraid of conceding an early goal that could change the momentum of the game seal their fate early on. Ismaily stepped up the pressure in the second half despite having the advantage of coming into this match with a 1-0 upset over Wedad in their first-leg match.

The pressure, along with a few key substitutions (Mohamed Fadl, Ahmed Khalifa and Ahmed Abdel-Wahid) resulted in the first goal in the 31st minute by Ahmed Samir Farag. After the goal, Al-Wedad loosened up on the defensive side which provided more opportunities for the Ismaily offence. The continued pressure from Ismaily resulted in the second goal by Mohamed Abdel-Wahid in the 3rd minute of injury time.
