Zamalek outplay Ahly, earn 2-0 victory
CAIRO (GoPharaohs.com) - In the 99th derby between Cairo’s two giants and arch rivals Ahly and Zamalek, the White’s outplayed the Reds and earned a deserved 2-0 victory.
This Egyptian Premier League week 29 victory was critical for Zamalek who are in the race for second place with Ismaily. Al-Ahly on the other hand had already secured the league title this year with 73 points before coming into the match.
It was also critical for Zamalek on the phsycological front. This is Zamalek’s first victory over Al-Ahly in 3 years. They last defeated Al-Ahly 2-1 in May of 2004.
Zamalek, who were by far the better side, were in control of the entire two halves of the game. Tamer Abdel-Hamid scored first in the 42nd minute from a cross by Zamalek’s rising star, Mahmoud Abdel-Razek “Shikabala”. Gamal Hamza scored the second goal from a spectacular header in the 62nd minute.
